Eyeshield 21 (Chapter 5-8) - Review

Chapter 5

More details about the rules.

Deimon has a hard time against Koigahama. Hiruma and Kurita are excellent players, but it is not enough because the 9 other players are beginners.

Shin is the best linebacker in Japan. Linebackers are members of the defensive team. The goal of the linebacker is to provide either extra run defense or extra pass defense based on the particular defensive play being executed. Linebackers are often regarded as the most important position in defense, due to their versatility in providing hard hits on running plays or an additional layer of pass defense, when required.

Koigahama scored a field goal and are winning the match. And Deimon’s ace Ishimaru is out of the game. Who is the hero who will come at this crucial moment?

Chapter 6

Eyeshield is a visor that's attached to a Football helmet to protect the eyes. Only players who are sensitive to light are allowed to wear the tinted visors. The other players can wear clear visors.

With the position as a running back, the number 21 and the eyeshield, Sena bears many similarities with LaDainian Tomlinson. Hovewer, Riichiro Inagaki said that Sena is based off of Marshall Faulk, as he is a huge St. Louis Rams fan.

Hiruma wanted Eyeshield 21 to be a secret weapon against his next opponent, so he decided to force Sakuraba to flee and stop scouting.

Shin is completely helpless with technology. That doesn't mean he is stupid though, he is actually very clever. But he decided to go with Sakuraba as he can't use his video camera.
Sena is running into the end zone. Unfortunately, he is dashing towards the wrong one.
The art was already amazing back then. It is no wonder One Punch Man has even better art nowadays.

Notice that Sena is holding his ball in a wrong way. He is a beginner after all, he doesn't know anything about American football.

Chapter 7

Surprisingly, Ishimaru does know the rules. Maybe he watched the Super Bowl and that's why he didn't mind playing for the Devil Bats?

"No one can stop me" Eyeshield 21
Sena could instantly visualize the best running routes possible by looking at the defense's weaknesses. A lifetime of running in crowds did that for him. So of course, he managed to dodge every single opponent player. Sena has quite a different personality on-field, which partially explained why his identity was not obvious for everyone.

DEIMON DEVIL BATS WON! Hiruma sure knows how to party!
Mamori is understandly mad at Hiruma.
Mamori VS Hiruma

Chapter 8

The whole chapter was awesome. Sena took a level in badass and decided to stay in the American Football club. All his life, Sena would do whatever any bully told him to do without hesitation. But he grew out of this after joining the Devil Bats. On-field in his first match, he was the hero, and he wants to become the ultimate one.

Hiruma managed to convince Mamori to join the club. He argued that Sena was both the Secretary and Manager, therefore he had too much work. Mamori decided to become the Manager to help Sena.
Look at Kurita, he is so happy to have another teammate! Then in the same page he learns that his next opponent is the strongest team in Tokyo... In the background, you can see all the players trying to hit on our best-girl Mamori.

Holy shit! How much does it cost to study there?

The White Knights are, as a group, the Devil Bats' main rivals throughout the series. And they are the foil to the Devil Bats as they placed their emphasis on defense instead of offense.

Defense vs Offense is an old debate in this sport. Indeed, legendary football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant famously said, “Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships.” But obviously both are important and you can find advocates for both sides.
