Naruto (Chapter 1-3) - Review

Chapter 1

The first panel of the manga! So Kyuubi, the Nine-Tailed Fox, was so powerful that every ninja in Konoha was needed, including the Hokage who died sealing him.

Kishimoto is a fan of Godzilla, and the tailed beasts mythology was introduced because Kishimoto wanted an excuse to draw monsters. Kyuubi is inspired by the fox spirit, Kitsune, in Japanese mythology. In East Asian folklore, foxes are depicted as a familiar spirit possessed of magic powers. These foxes are depicted as mischievous, usually tricking other people, with the ability to disguise themselves as a beautiful woman.

In the first chapter, we get to know Naruto and how he loves pranking everyone. Right from the start, he was painting the Hokage Rock, a mountain that has the faces of the four Hokage. The monument is obviously similar to Mount Rushmore.

Okay, Naruto. That was hilarious. And Iruka, you are such a perv. But I wish we could have seen the reactions of other students.

"It's not like I have anyone to go home to." That's depressing, man. And why the hell is a twelve-year-old boy living alone? Who took care of Naruto when he was a baby?

Turns out that Iruka is a nice guy despite his strict attitudes towards Naruto.

Naruto wants to become the Hokage and surpass the previous ones to make the village acknowledge his strength! An Afrian proverb says "a child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth". Honestly, the village is lucky that Naruto didn't want to destroy it, but to protect it instead...

So yeah, Naruto is very weak at the beginning. He can’t even perform basic techniques that every ninja can use. Naruto was supposed to be the poster boy for “Hard work beats talent if talent fails to work hard”.

Unfortunately, the manga is very inconsistent with that fact. Sometimes Naruto is the underdog, someone who had to worked very hard to keep up with geniuses. However, Naruto is also the guy who mastered high-ranked techniques in only some weeks. And in a manga where genetics can give you OP powers, this message seems totally wrong.

The series of Naruto touched and focused a lot on depression and on social injustices. Fuck those women by the way.

Everyone in the village hates a child because he has a demon inside them. They ostracize him and make him feel unloved. It is quite fortunate for them that Naruto uses his powers to protect them instead of... you know, killing them and made them pay for all the crap they've put him through? Stupid village.

Congratulations, Naruto. You managed to beat the Hokage! The Sexy Jutsu seems broken as fuck. Seriously through, why the fuck did the Hokage let Naruto steal the scroll?

Kyubi’s first panel! I love his design. And wow he is huge, compare him with the buildings!

Mizuki wanted the secret scroll, full of forbidden ninja arts, for himself and tricked Naruto into stealing it for him. Moreover, he revealed the truth to Naruto. Kyubi, the one who destroyed the village and killed many people, including Iruka’s parents, is sealed inside Naruto. That’s why Naruto was alone and hated by everyone. Man, I feel bad for Naruto for having to put up with the village’s bullshit attitudes.

Fortunately, not everyone hates Naruto. His teacher Iruka saved him. Naruto and Iruka both suffered from the death of their parents and became the class clown in order to be acknowledged by someone else, so Iruka understood Naruto’s loneliness. Unlike most of the villagers in Konoha, Iruka knows that Naruto is not Kyuubi, that he is a citizen of Konoha.

Man, I love Iruka. I wish we could have seen him more. He was meant to be Naruto’s “father”, but Kishimoto wasted a perfectly good character. That’s a shame.

KAGE BUNSHIN NO JUTSU. One of the most famous techniques of Naruto. So Mizuki was easily defeated by Naruto. Yes, Naruto beat a Chunin in the first chapter of the manga before he was even a Genin. Well, he also defeated the Hokage, but that wasn’t fair.

Naruto finally became a Genin! And Iruka offered ramen to Naruto.

Very good first chapter. I’ve already loved Naruto (both the character and the series) after seeing this chapter.

Chapter Two

Okay Naruto, why the fuck did you think it was a good idea?

Konohamaru’s first appearance! The little kid happens to be the grandson of the Hokage.

Konohamaru wants people to see him not as the Hokage’s grandson, but to see him for who he is really. Therefore he wants to become the Hokage so that people would acknowledge him.

Konohamaru was impressed by the Sexy Jutsu who defeated the Hokage in the first chapter and asks Naruto to teach him that technique.

Naruto's life was rough, man. The Hokage sacrificed his life to stop said demon asks the village to make him a hero, but they choose instead to hate Naruto. Fuck this village.

Ninja Harem! So Naruto also beat Ebisu, a Tokubetsu Junin. I mean, that’s not surprising as he has already beaten the Hokage.

Konohamaru wished everyone would acknowledged him right now. However, Naruto made a beautiful speech and explained to him that the Hokage is someone that everyone respects. Therefore, trying to become the Hokage is hard and will take a lot of effort. “There are no short cuts!”

Well, pretty sure that stealing a secret scroll to learn a forbidden technique and having a tailed-beast (among many other things) are short cuts. But whatever.

Chapter Three

Sakura’s first appearance! I don't like her.

Sasuke is there! Honestly, I think in-universe Sasuke is overrated as fuck. Like Naruto said, “What so great about him? I just don’t get it”. Every girl loves him, every boy thinks of him as a rival. That's a bit annoying. Other than that, I like Sasuke (at least in the first arcs).

Inner Sakura is quite funny, I guess.

Naruto’s first kiss! Let’s be honest guys. If Naruto was a girl, everyone would ship her with Sasuke. Am I wrong?

HAHA. Poor Sakura and Naruto.

That's a stupid reason to put Naruto and Sasuke in the same team.

Am I supposed to think that Naruto is weak? This dude defeated his rival genin (Sasuke), a chûnin (Mizuki), a jônin (Ebisu), and a Hokage in only three chapters. Granted, he cheated, but he still beat theam.

Naruto (who took the appearance of Sasuke) and Sakura almost kissed. Naruto, you are a dick. Don’t take the appearance of someone to kiss a girl. Don’t play with the feeling of a girl, even if it is Sakura. Fortunately, Naruto had to go to the toilet as he drank expired milk.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU SAKURA? Did you just insult an orphan (Naruto) in front of another orphan (Sasuke)? That's messed up.

No seriously, why didn't Sakura know Sasuke's past? It doesn't make any sense.

Honestly, as much as I like team 7, putting Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura in the same team seems like the worst idea ever. I don't know how this Sensei can put up with them.

Comments

  1. Naruto's core themes were never about "hard work beats natural talent", instead being about the cycle of hatred and how your birth doesn't dictate your life. Yes, that was the theme of the battle between Rock Lee vs Gaara, but it's not the theme that Naruto stands by. Hard work is important, and Naruto believes that, but Naruto never says that he believes hard work can overcome natural talent. And it's something that people misunderstand the fight between Neji and Naruto for. That whole fight was between two ideologies, one that believed your birthright determined your destiny, and the other believed that no matter your birthright, you could carve your own destiny. Neji and Naruto were both given seals that affected their lives, but while Neji didn't even try to go against it, Naruto keeps on fighting against the destiny he was given at birth. And that's how Naruto beats Neji, by using that said seal and defying everyone's expectations to go against the destiny he was given at birth
