Bleach (Chapters 13-16) - Review

Chapter 13

New characters! Jinta is an asshole while Ururu seems to be a nice little girl. Jinta is a slacker and hot-tempered, often pressing his fists on Ururu's head to get her to back down. Both are Urahara's assistants. 

Urahara's first appearance is... original. 

In the end of chapter 1, an extra revealed that Urahara helped Rukia and Ichigo after their fight against Fishbone D. This is actually Urahara's first appearance.

And that's how we know the names of the first hollows. But why does Soul Society gives a name to every hollow? Are names randomly generated or some Shinigami decided how to call them?

How can Urahara have a shop in the middle of the most spiritually active place on the planet, called "Urahara Shop", and not be noticed by the Soul Society? If Rukia knew it was here, why wasn't it reported? In the arc of Turn Back The Pendulum, it is revealed that he has fled from his punishment (execution) and should therefore be prosecuted by the Soul Society even now. That's definitely a plothole.

Rukia is a very good actress!

Good to see Rukia thinking about whatever may happens. She gave him a pill so that Ichigo could use his Shinigami form without her.

Look at Rukia blushing! She's trying so hard to be serious, but she can't because of Ichigo. These two really have the best relationship.

Poor Ichigo. He cares so much about being cool.

Turns out not!Ichigo will be a problem after all.

Chapter 14

Poor Ururu. She fucked up and can't accept reality (or can't read?). Jinta's face is hilarious though.

Yeah, that's fucking unfair. Life is unfair.

Chizuru is a proud lesbian. She hugs Orihime every chance she gets, and usually compliments her and fondles her chest. And that's creepy.

"I could imprison you and slowly turn you on to the joy of women" WHAT THE FUCK? 

Orihime is fun to watch. She is so pure and good, even though her ability to smell Ichigo is creepy.

Not!Ichigo surpassed the limit of human body and can jump very high.

 "Man... All the guys and girls are staring at me. They must think I'm amazing. This feels so great! I've been imprisoned for a while. I'm hungry for girls too... It doesn't matter, I'll just pick one..." Not!Ichigo

Not!Ichigo notices Orihime's big breasts and jumped at her. 

Not!Ichigo is totally ruining Ichigo's reputations.

"Don't be crazy... Only Bruce Willis would jump into a storm like this..." Chizuru

 

Chapter 15

 This is.so funny! Ichigo used to say he didn't care about what people think of him (that's why he doesn't dye his hair black even if he would be viewed as a thug because of his orange-hair). But now he doesn't want people to get the wrong impression on him.

Rukia, a girl who is over 100 years old, said that kissing is nothing. I wonder what she is currently reading.

Ichigo has been creating an image of a cool guy for years. That's surprising.

Yeah, the creation of Mod Soul was immoral. Forcing a corpse to fight for you is... "distasteful" as Rukia said. Moreover, mod souls can be seen by other humans, so I don't know how they could fight against hollows without people making a fuss about it. On the other hand, it also means more soldiers in Soul Society, so more hollows can be killed. I mean, they are several millions of people who die every year in the world and millions of hollows whereas they are just some thousands of Shinigami.

 The Soul Society is definitely portrayed as corrupt and evil there. It is not the "heaven" that Rukia boasted it was (but she was probably lying whenever she said that).

This is quite surprising coming from Rukia. While she is selfless, she still accepts the rules of Soul Society even if they are wrong. "The rules of Soul Society are created to protect you human spirits!" But that's a bullshit reason to kill every mod soul. That sounds like propaganda to justify any bad action.

Not!Ichigo is having the best day of his life.

Urahara seems to be a nice guy. This is a heartwarming moment.

Urahara, Tessai, Ururu and Jinta are going to recover the mod soul. Notice that Urahara, who was just shown as nice, said "our merchandise", so he also sees the mod soul as an object. That's very sad.

Chapter 16

For an old being, Rukia is very naive.

Not!Ichigo isn't evil. On the contrary, he saved the lives of some boys from a hollow.

And Ichigo saves not!Ichigo's life!

Look at that, two Ichigo beating a hollow.

Then not!Ichigo risked his life for some ants. Why?

"Right after I was born, Soul Society ordered the mod-souls the be destroyed. And the day after I was born, I was already chosen to die! Everyday, while I was in that pill, I was afraid. As I watched my friends disappear each day. Even after I got lucky and escaped the storage among other pills, I feared being discovered and killed. As I trembled in fear, I would think life isn't something that should be taken by others... I was born like this! I should at least have the right to live and die freely! Whether it's humans or insects or even us! That's why I won't kill... I won't kill anything!"

Not!Ichigo's life is tragic. It is a shame that Kubo only uses him as a joke character as he had a fair amount of depth.

 

Man, Urahara can be ruthless. Tessai, Ururu and Jinta then complained that they were useless, which is unfortunately true for the whole series. They had potential, but Kubo never used them, which is also a shame. One of Kubo's main flaw is that he creates too many characters and doesn't use them well. 

Remember that Rukia said in the previous chapter that all mod-souls must be destroyed according to the rules of Soul Society. While she accepts that the rules should be followed "to protect humans", she still decided to save the mod soul's life. She is a good girl.
