Lee creates his own training exercises, wherever he may be. He makes a lot of efforts to surpass geniuses, and I like that!
Sakura still tries to fight with Rock Lee. It's nice to see that she is not completely a damsel in distress! Meanwhile, Rock Lee is... doing something weird.
Wow that's impressive!
Only Lee was able to master the Lotus Techniques! Even the genius Neji couldn't do it. Lee really is the example that efforts can surpass talents. But Gai then said that this technique was one of the forbidden arts for Lee.
But Zaku intereferes and saves Dosu. What the hell is Sakura doing? She could have stopped Zaku!
Chapter 54
Previously in Naruto. Orochimaru defeated Naruto and Sasuke. Sakura must now protect them all by herself.
Anko used to be Orochimaru's student! She wants to kill him using all means necessary.
Orochimaru vs Anko! Sensei vs Student!
"You must not just squander every secret I taught you." Orochimaru
Well, Anko was disappointing. She wanted to commit suicide to kill Orochimaru, but it was just a doppelganger...
Orochimaru says he doesn't want to kill the Hokage as he lacks the hubris and the number of subordinates to do such thing. Orochimaru "lack hubris", is that a joke?
Anko also has the cursed seal. But Orochimaru doesn't care about her as she is not a genius nor a Uchiha. Orochimaru wants Sasuke to be his vessel to succeed him.
Lee, Tenten and Neji will finally start to move!
Sakura versus the three ninjas of Oto! Who will win?
Sakura didn't sleep the whole night. She protected Naruto and Sasuke. But when a squirrel got close to her, she was afraid that an enemy arrived.
Lee missed a leave but saved the squirrel instead! So his love for Sakura will never be requited and she will make fun of his hair.
Neji managed to spot Team 10. Ino tried to seduce him to get him away but she failed.
So Neji looks badass here, but he is quite stupid because of his pride. I mean, if he can take a scroll easily, he should do it. And how can Neji see what Ino was doing behind him without his Byakugan?
The Team Dosu finally decided to attack Sakura in order to kill Sasuke.
With Naruto and Sasuke in coma, Sakura can finally do something! Sakura was already shown to be very intelligent in the first part of the exam. And now she manages to create trap that surprises her enemies!
But again, Sakura is said to be a complete no-talent, which is not true. She is intelligent and she managed to climb the three without her hands in one try unlike Naruto and Sasuke. Her punches against Naruto and her kick aganist the "pervert" in the Land of Waves seem to highlight her strength (even if it was for comic relief). Nevertheless, Kishimoto decided to make her useless.
But someone saved Sakura and stopped the three ninjas!
Rock Lee, Konoha's handsome blue beast, appeared to help Sakura!
Chapter 52
Rock Lee barely knows Sakura and wants to protect her until he dies. I don't know if it is romantic, toxic, or selfless.
Well, it is actually a 3vs2 as Sakura can still fight with Lee, even if she isn't very useful.
I didn't remember Neji caring about Lee. I thought that he was a dick to everyone. It's nice to see that he trusts his teammate.
"Thus, the circumstances under which you may employ this technique are severely limited." Gai
Lee believes that protecting Sakura is a good reason to use the Lotus Technique.
Lee almost defeated Dosu. But due to Zaku's help, Dosu can still fight. It is now his turn to attack.
Lee uses all his energy for the Lotus Technique, so he can't do much. What was Lee's plan anyway? Even if he managed to defeat Dozu with his technique, there are still Zaku and Kin left.
Chapter 53
Naruto and Sasuke were defeated by Orochimaru. Lee was defeated by Team Dosu. Now Sakura is again alone against the three ninjas.
Dozu kindly explains his powers to us. The ninja from Oto (sound) uses sound.
Zaku also explains his powers which is also about sound.
Team 10 doesn't know if they should help Sakura or not. Sakura and Ino used to be best friends. But because they both loved the same guy (Sasuke), Sakura decided that they should be rivals instead... Fuck you Sakura.
Go back to the cover page in chapter 50. We can see Sakura taking care of her hair in the middle of the exam. Kin insults Sakura because she cares more about her look than about training (which seems true).
Sakura is fighting well against the three enemies. But Sakura knows that she is useless. She is tired of being a burden to Naruto, Sasuke and Lee. What is she going to do?
Sakura decides to cut her hair and frees herself from Kin. Kin knew that Sakura would try something, Sakura probably couldn't cut Kin's hand or stab her leg.
As Sasuke allegedly likes girls with long hair, Sakura decided to grow her hair long. So when she decided to cut her hair to protect Naruto, Sasuke and Lee, she also decided to stop caring about being beautiful. She wants to be able to protect the people she loves by herself. That's a nice character arc, and I forgive Sakura's uselessness in the previous arcs.
Sakura uses many times the art of substitution to deceive her enemies.
Zaku thought that Sakura would use another art of substitution and was searching for the real Sakura. But he didn't realize that he threw kunais at the real one.
Even with basic techniques like the art of substitution, you can make an interesting battle!
Ino was such a nice friend to Sakura. I can't believe Sakura severed her friendship with Ino because of love. That's petty as fuck. (Of course, in the next chapters, we learn that it was a bit more complicated than that, but so far this is what the manga says.)
Ino and her teammates finally decided to help Sakura! Even if Ino and Sakura are now rivals, it seems that their friendship didn't vanish.
