Chapter 80
Previously in Bleach. With the help of Kūkaku Shiba, a one-armed explosives expert and old friend of the mysterious talking cat Yoruichi Shihōin -- Ichigo Kurosaki and crew are one step closer to infiltrating the Soul Society and rescuing their friend Rukia Kuchiki before she is executed.
The Seireitei has a lot of defense, so no enemy can enter it easily.
Are Kenpachi and Gin friends? After all, they both appeared for the first time together to talk to Byakuya about Rukia's execution.
The house starts to shake. The Great Kukaku Arm is falling down. Uryu wonders what this pressure in the air is. Orihime and Kukaku understands that it is Ichigo.
But Aizen is (again) interrupted by an alert! I'm sure Aizen is the kind of guy who gets cockblocked all the time.
Every Captain returned to their defense stations.
Aizen said to Gin that the alarm sure came at the perfect time. He is probably tired of getting cockblocked by alarms.
"The heroes always arrive a little later!" Ganju isn't there to bid farewell to Ichigo and his friends.
Ichigo doesn't know Kido, so he can't use the cannonball. That's not surprising as he had been a Shinigami for only a few months and Rukia (and Urahara) didn't teach him anything.
While I understand why Ichigo never use Kido in this arc, it's a shame that he never learnt any spell in the next arcs. Ichigo can theoretically use many abilities, but he doesn't use any of them. Compared to almost every other character in the series, Ichigo's fighting skills are boring. He has a big sword, one technique, many forms and that's it...
Look at Ganju being proud of himself!
But fortunately, Kukaku has a solution to deal with the Seireitei's defense!
Ganju's grudge against the Shinigami is what makes his character interesting. But that's also why Kubo only uses him for this arc and not the others.
So Vice-Captains usually don't wear their armband? Why?
Tetsuzaemon Iba is a useless character, you can forget him. Hinamori is Aizen's Vice-Captain. She is so cute. "All the captains and vice-captains are scattered around Soul Society with their mission."
That would have been the perfect excuse to explain why Ichigo and his friends didn't see many Elite soldiers at first! Kubo, why did you gather all Vice-Captains and Captains before the Ichigo's invasion? They seem quite stupid in this arc, because they can all theoretically find Ichigo and his friends easily (Uryu and Ichigo in the previous arc could already find someone with Reiraku) and defeat them.
Renji asks Matsumoto who her captain is. But... why doesn't Renji know that already? And Hitsugaya (Matsumoto's captain) is first mentioned in the series there!
Aizen had previously a discussion with Renji about Rukia. Aizen told him that Rukia's execution didn't make any sense (which is true) and believed that there was a conspiracy. It seems that Aizen didn't say that to his own Vice-Captain Hinamori, but only to Renji.
Ganju and Kukaku both are sad for their brother's dead. But while Ganju hates all Shinigamis, Kukaku believes that she should help Ichigo because her brother loved the Shinigami and died as a Shinigami.
Chapter 81
Ichigo is the only one who can't form a shield! Surpringly, both Orihime and Chad control their powers (although Chad is a bit unstable). I guess, Yoruichi was a good master for them.
"Is she important?" Well, Rukia changed Ichigo's life. Thanks to her, Ichigo could protect his family against a hollow. Thanks to her, Ichigo can now protect "a mountain load of people". Thanks to her, Ichigo found the truth about his mother's death and almost killed Grand Fisher. She had been in the human world for only two months, but Ichigo and his friends are ready to risk their lives to save her. That's how important she is.
Ichigo didn't promise Rukia that he would save her. In fact Rukia wanted him to be live and forget her. Ichigo doesn't want money either. Ichigo wants to save Rukia because she made a selfless sacrifice for him. To save Ichigo and his family in the first chapter, Rukia lost her Shinigami power and knew she would be arrested because of it. Rukia didn't even know Ichigo's name when she decided to do it.
Ganju is surprised to see Ichigo (and Rukia) being a good person. He thought that Shinigamis were all evil because they killed his dear brother. So Ganju decided to give some advice to Ichigo!
Back in Soul Society, Gin Ichimaru enters the captain's room.
Almost every captain in Soul Society is now gathered. I love their designs! Kubo really knows how to design characters, that's probably why he created so many characters in his series. Most of them are useless, but at less we can remember their face!
Hitsugaya looks so small! Renji called him "the baby genius"; but I didn't think that he would be so childlike.
Chapter 82
Gin spent one page and half wasting the captain's time. Then Kenpachi told Gin that nobody came all the way back for chit-chat. He asked why Gin went to deal with some intruders out of his jurisdiction and why he failed to eliminate the threats.
I love Gin. He let the intruders live and tried to use "carelessness" as an excuse. Of course, Mayuri doesn't believe him. Hitsugaya is annoyed to see "old men" making pointless arguments.
Soi Fon comments "how dull" they are, Kyoraku is having fun, and Byakuya ignores them all. With just a few panels, we have an idea of each Captain's personality!
Was it really necessary to have a meeting for that? Was that more important than killing Hollows?
Orihime is so kind and funny!
Ichigo has a lot of spiritual power, but he can't control it. Imagine what would happen if he manages to perfectly control his power.
Ichigo lost control and there was an explosion. Chad protected Uryu and Orihime, he is a nice guy. Then Kukaku beats both Ichigo and Ganju, while Orihime is smiling.
Gin is awesome. He didn't kill the intruders when he had the chance. And when Yamamoto gathered every captain to ask him why he fucked up, Gin was having fun. Look at his smile! Aizen wanted to talk to Gin.
Chapter 83
Kenpachi wants to fight against Ichigoa and his friends! He is excited because Ichigo manages to survive against Gin, so he must be strong.
You should not underestimate Aizen!
Ganju's brother finished the 6 years worth of curriculum in just two years and became a Vice-Captain in only five years! He is truly a genius.
The identity of the Shinigami who killed his brother seems... a bit obvious there?
Ganju decided to help Ichigo and his friends to discover the reason why his brother died, and why he thanked the one who killed him.
I think it would have been more interesting if Kubo merged Kukaku and Ganju. You merge Kukaku's awesome design and the mystery surrounding her friendship with Yoruichi and her missing arm, with Ganju's bickering with Ichigo and grudge against the Shinigami.
Ichigo, Uryu, Orihime, Chad, Ganju and Yoruichi will soon enter the Seireitei to save Rukia!
