All Shinigamis are surprised by the sudden invasion and they are preparing themselves.

Ikkaku refused to walk away from a fight like a coward and continued the fight despite his injuries. As Ikkaku charged, Ichigo thought back to Urahara charging him similarly, and declared Ikkaku was too slow.
Ichigo finally managed to put Ikkaku down, as he declared that Ichigo was just too strong. "Tough luck" Ikkaku said. Ichigo won the fight against a Third Seat!
