Chapter 78
Kiba is carried away to recover. Before leaving, he pleads with Hinata to forfeit if she is matched against Gaara or Neji Hyūga.
But Hinata and Neji are paired together for the eighth preliminary match. And Hinata does not take Kiba's advice. The Hyuga Clan is like the Uchiha Clan has an elite and accomplished blood. Genetics is unfair.
Chapter 79
Inspired by Naruto's confidence in her, Hinata sheds the fears she had had only moments earlier. While Neji is surprised by Hinata's newfound determination, he maintains that Hinata will lose.
Hinata and Neji have the same stance. Lee says that the Hyuga style is the strongest school of Taijutsu in Konoha and that the strongest Genin of Konoha is Neji.
Neji reveals that since the beginning of their fight he has been cutting off Hinata's chakra points, making her attacks ineffective. Neji views himself as a genius and believes Hinata is a failure. So the fight can only end with Hinata's defeat and despair.
Chapter 80
Neji then says that Hinata should quit. From the start, her attacks have been completely ineffective. Hinata falls down.
Neji tries to kill her but is stopped by the attending jōnin. The match was already over.
He is stopped by Lee, who states that this is not the right time for a clash between a "genius" and a "failure".
Naruto takes some of Hinata's spilled blood and swears upon it in front of everyone that he will defeat Neji. It is kinda obvious that Naruto will fight Neji sooner or later. And it will be awesome.
The other contestant picked is... not Choji!
Previously in Naruto. Naruto won against Kiba. There are only 6 fighters left: Hinata, Neji, Lee, Choji, Gaara and Dosu. The title of the chapter spoils the next fight: Neji vs Hinata!
Hinata is such a nice girl.
Neji comes from the cadet branch which supports the main branch. That's why Neji called Hinata "Lady Hinata".
Let's be honest. Neji is a jerk. But his backstory is sad, and I understand why he became like that. The Hyuga's main branch is horrible. It comes as no surprise that Neji resents Hinata and the rest of the main house of the Hyuga.
Before fighting, Neji tries to convince Hinata to give up.
But Hinata says that she wants to change. Hinata is trying to improve herself.
Hinata's own father sees her as a failure. Hanabi is five years younger than Hinata, but she is said to be stronger than her.
Neji is driven by a fatalistic belief that his and everyone else's fates were determined from birth and were inescapable. That's a depressive view of life.
Neji then uses his Byakugan to analyse her personality shortcomings and deems her a failure.
Neji brings Hinata to tears. She tries her best to change but Neji tells her that her effort is vain.
Upset by Neji's words, Naruto encourages Hinata to defeat him!
Neji and Hinata are trading blows.
Gai has two students with very different styles of Taijutsu! And he has Tenten. That's less impressive...
Keirakurei is energy lines inside the body. The Byakugan allows Neji and Hinata to see and attack it, thus damaging the organs as well.
Hinata lands an attack at Neji, but it was ineffective, whereas Neji's attack makes her cough blood.
Neji wants Hinata to withdraw. But she refuses. She never go back to her words because that's her shinobi way!
Naruto inspired Hinata to never give up and to become confident. That's why Hinata was always watching him.
Neji is a genius, he is even better than Sasuke. And Hinata can't even use her Juken, so the winner of the fight is obvious.
But Hinata doesn't give up and continues to fight! Naruto keeps encouraging her to win against Neji.
Naruto's determination changed Hinata's life. She stopped giving up and began to have faith in herself. Hinata managed to change contrary to Neji's expectations.
But Hinata has no chance to win against Neji.
Neji then says that Hinata should quit. From the start, her attacks have been completely ineffective. Hinata falls down.
Neji does not understand why Hinata would continue to fight when she can no longer hope to win. Hinata is to hear that Naruto is watching her.
Hinata tells Neji that, although he claims she suffers as the heiress of the Hyūga clan, he suffers more for only being a member of the clan's branch family.
Neji tries to kill her but is stopped by the attending jōnin. The match was already over.
When Hinata collapses, Naruto comes to her side, who catches a brief glimpse of him before losing consciousness. Neji then criticises Naruto for his pointless cheering and then states once someone becomes a failure, they will always be a failure.
Chapter 81
Naruto tries to attack Neji for being so merciless to his own cousin.
Kankurô believes that Neji is a monster like Gaara. Gaara has a "the demon that lives within him." He is finally revealed to be a host of Tailed Beast, like Naruto!
As the participants of the ninth match are being picked, the four remaining contestants ready themselves. Gaara is selected and quickly enter the arena.
