Eyeshield 21 (Chapters 21-25) - Review

Chapter 21
The episode begins with Sena walking to school holding a football. A baseball lands at his feet and Raimon "Monta" Taro comes to retrieve it. When told to give Monta the ball, Sena throws the football, but it slips from his hand. Monta saves it splendidly from getting run over by a truck.

Wow, Monta used to be so ugly.
Monta is impressed by Sena's determination and says that he needs to put more effort!

The club office's renovation is finished! And it looks awesome.

Deimon advertises in order to recruit people.

Deimon used to have a third player with Hiruma and Kurita. It was already foreshadowed before when Kurita says that Deimon needs a Kicker and Hiruma replies "Stop talking about him like that." Musashi left for (so far) unknown reasons even though they share a common goal.

Chapter 22
Sena wants to recruit Monta for the Wide Receiver position. But first, he watches Monta playing baseball. While Monta is good at catching, his ball control and his shoulder strength suck. Baseball needs all-round abilities, and not specialization. So Monta is a bad player.

Sena was... forced to try out and he impressed everyone. Then he quickly left as he is not interested in baseball.

Sena tries to convince to play American Football with him.

Mamori x Hiruma is so cute.

Monta watches the Deimon vs Ojo. He says that Sakuraba, the Wide Receiver of Ojo, sucks but is still very popular. So Monta imagines himself as a popular Wide Receiver.

Yeah no... that's not legal. Even if American Football is quite violent, you can't injure people on purpose. Hiruma said that instead of Sena in order to scare their opponents. "You gotta become a badass in order to deal with the enemy!"

Chapter 23
Eyeshield 21 became a mystery in Deimon. Who is he? An alien? A bishounen? A strong guy?

As Monta watched Deimon vs Ojo's match, he talks with Sena about it and they quickly become friend. Monta hopes to be at least in Rank 2 in the Baseball team.

However, Monta failed the test and can't become a baseball player in the club.

Iin football, the positions are highly specialized and teams want to get the best performance out of a player at his position. That's why for instance there are different players for defense and offense (even if it is not the case for Deimon) unlike many other sports.

How fast is Cerberos? Can he run 4.2 seconds a 40 yard dash?

Monta's globe was given to him by a professional baseball player called Honjou. He's very good at catching. Everytime he makes a brilliant catch, the crowd goes wild and cheerfs for him. Therefore Monta wanted to be a hero just like Honjou.

That's unfortunately quite realistic. Not everyone can become a hero in the sport he loves. Despite all their effort, some people may never be able to play a game in tournament, in the professional world etc..

"Then I decided I'll give it all I've got to become a regular player. Even though it's quite different from my original aspirations, I'm having much more fun this way. Sometimes things just turn out the way they are!" Sena

But Monta still refuses Sena's offer.

Chapter 24
Hiruma tries to find a Wide Receiver for his team. So he throws a ball at every tall guy, and if someone manages to catch it he tries to recruit him.

In the previous chapter, Cerberos tore Monta's pants. Monta doesn't wear underpants and doesn't have another pants. That's a bit ridiculous.

Hiruma is still testhing students' talents to see if there's someone who could turn around and catch it single-handedly, even if he tosses the ball suddenly. And Monta did it!

So... Hiruma decides to kidnap Monta. Hiruma doesn't know what consent is.

Hiruma wanted to use his extortion booklet (where everyone's secrets are written). But he decided to coerce Monta to join him in another way.

Hiruma says they need someone to protect Mamori from the egoistic and harmful Eyeshield 21. Monta being gullible decided to think about Hiruma's offer for one night. I love Hiruma, but that was an asshole move.

Hiruma persuades Monta to join the club! Monta apologizes to Honjou and decides to change sport.

They are five members in Deimon Devil Bats! Hiruma (Quarterback), Kurita (Center - Lineman), Sena (Running Back), Monta (Wide Receiver) and Mamori (Manager).

Chapter 25
Zokugaku is a high school full of delinquents, violence and gangs like in Beelzebub or GTO (without any strong guys though...).

The news is that the Ojo White Knights nearly lost to the Sankaku Punks by one point. Hiruma is very upset as their propaganda of having scored two touchdowns against Ojo would not work anymore. So Mamori suggests to have an exhibition match in order to recruit more people.

Shin, the ace linebacker of Ojo, recognises Eyeshield 21!

Some delinquents in motorcycle stole Monta's wallet. So Shin and Sena are going to pursue them!

Sena, Shin and Monta successfully stopped the delinquents and caught the money!

Kenshirô Shin is cool and awesome!

Hiruma decides to have an exhibition match with the Zokugaku Chameleons at the Deimon High School field. Dressing up as Eyeshield 21, he meets their captain, Habashira Rui, and wagers 5 million yen.

Habashira Rui, the linebacker of Zokugaku, boasts that he is stronger than Shin and mocks Deimon for losing to Ojo. However, Sena is not happy and says that Shin is the strongest linebacker in Japon, not Habashira.
